KUALA LUMPUR — The newly launched Shah Alam Line recorded more than 60,000 passenger journeys on its first full day of operations, reflecting strong public uptake for the latest addition to the Klang Valley rail network.
In a statement on Monday (June 29), Rapid KL said the line logged a total of 60,000 passenger journeys, a day after it was officially opened.
The figure covers not only rail usage but also supporting first- and last-mile connectivity via feeder buses and the Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) service.
Of the total, 58,865 journeys were made on the train service itself, while 3,319 journeys were recorded through the integrated network. This included 1,883 feeder bus trips and 1,436 trips via the Rapid KL On-Demand service.
Rapid KL said the encouraging turnout underscored strong public demand for the new rail corridor.
“It not only demonstrates public confidence in the Shah Alam Line, but also proves the need for a rail network that connects residential areas, workplaces, educational institutions and commercial hubs in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang,” the statement said.
Group president and chief executive officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Amir Hamdan, said the response was a positive indication of acceptance for the new service.
“More than 60,000 journeys on the first day show that the public is indeed looking for better public transport options in the western Klang Valley corridor. This is a very encouraging start,” he said.
Amir added that Rapid KL would continue to monitor travel patterns, operational performance and passenger feedback to further refine the commuting experience as ridership increases.
Rapid KL also confirmed that operations teams, station staff and Rapid Troopers have been deployed across all Shah Alam Line stations to assist commuters with journey planning and transfers to feeder services and on-demand transport.
The operator reminded the public that free rides on the Shah Alam Line and its feeder bus network will remain available until July 31, 2026, encouraging wider adoption of the new system.
Feedback from early commuters indicated broadly positive experiences, with many praising the line’s modern facilities, comfort and improved connectivity across the Klang Valley.
While trains were already operating at high occupancy on the first day—largely attributed to the free ride promotion—passengers said journeys remained orderly, efficient and well-managed throughout. – June 30, 2026
