KUALA LUMPUR – DAP has accepted the outcome of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election, with the party pledging to reassess its performance and work towards regaining voters’ confidence.
DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo said the party respected the decision made by the electorate and would accept the results with humility.
“The voters of Negeri Sembilan have delivered their verdict in the 16th State Election, and we accept this outcome with full humility,” the Digital Minister said in a statement today.
Gobind also acknowledged the defeat of DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in the Chennah state seat, describing it as a closely fought contest while recognising Loke’s contributions to the party and the people over the years.
“DAP has faced setbacks before. The message from the electorate is clear. We must and will undertake a thorough assessment of the outcome, listen carefully to the concerns of the people and work hard to regain their confidence and support,” he said.
He congratulated the successful candidates elected by Negeri Sembilan voters, urging them to carry out their responsibilities and prioritise public interests.
“We hope they will govern responsibly and always place the interests of the people first,” he added.
Gobind also thanked DAP’s candidates, members, volunteers and campaign workers for their efforts throughout the election period.
Loke, who lost the Chennah seat to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Siow Kong Choon (John) from MCA by 450 votes, said he was considering relinquishing his position as Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman following the defeat.
“Yes, I am considering giving up my position in DAP Negeri Sembilan… namely the position as state chairman,” he said, adding that he would consult other party leaders before making a final decision.
“Before I make a decision, regarding my role as DAP Secretary-General, I will of course discuss further with the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) regarding the party’s direction from now on,” he added.
The defeat marked a significant blow to Pakatan Harapan (PH), ending DAP’s long-standing hold on Chennah, which had been considered one of the party’s traditional strongholds.
Loke had retained the constituency since 2013 and was seeking a fourth consecutive term before losing to BN in the latest state polls. – August 2, 2026
