KUALA LUMPUR — Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Rahim, who died after an electric shock while on duty in Beaufort, Sabah, was laid to rest at the Kampung Pangkal Kuang Muslim Cemetery in Ketereh, Kelantan, this morning.
The 29-year-old’s remains arrived in his hometown early today, before funeral prayers were held at his family home in Kampung Hutan Pasir.
His eldest sister, Nurlella Rahim, 34, thanked the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for helping bring her brother’s remains home.
“The vehicle carrying my brother’s remains arrived at 4.45am. I would like to thank PDRM for helping and making the arrangements to bring his remains home,” she told reporters at the cemetery, as reported by Bernama.
Nurlella said the five siblings shared a close bond and kept in regular contact through video calls and social media despite living in different states.
“We made video calls with each other almost every day. Although I live in Ipoh, Perak, and my brother was in Sabah, we stayed in touch through video calls and social media,” she said.
The siblings also commented on each other’s social media posts and used their family WhatsApp group to make video calls whenever they were free.
Nurlella said her brother last spoke to their mother via video call on Thursday afternoon.
“During the video call with our mother, he was tired and less responsive but still managed to smile. He told her he was okay and that they would continue talking later because he had to report for work.
“Even during short breaks, he would make video calls with us,” she said.
She said her last video call with Mohamad Nur was on Sunday, when he took his wife, Fatimah Shahira, and their child to the beach.
Mohamad Nur was among three personnel from the Weston Police Station who died in an incident at about 5.50pm yesterday.
He and two other personnel were believed to have been electrocuted while moving a 29-foot-long metal pole used to hook coconuts outside the station near Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Weston.
The other victims were Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, 40, from Sarawak, and Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 26, from Terengganu.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ordered a thorough, transparent and immediate investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Anwar said the investigation was necessary to determine what led to the incident and identify measures to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again. – August 8, 2026
