KUALA LUMPUR – The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) has thrown its full weight behind the decree by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, demanding that investigations into the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) findings on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) be conducted thoroughly, transparently, and without compromise.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said His Majesty’s concern underscored the critical need to safeguard the trust and confidence of Muslims in the nation’s haj management and Islamic financial institutions.
“Firm and fair action based on the rule of law should be taken against any individual or entity found guilty of breaching trust and governance principles,” he said in a statement today.
Zulkifli issued a stern warning that the government will neither tolerate nor compromise on any form of abuse of power, malpractice, or administrative failures that jeopardize the interests of TH depositors.
“Every enforcement measure and improvement recommended by the RCI report will be scrutinized thoroughly to ensure that TH’s governance structure is strengthened to the highest level.
“This continued commitment is highly significant not only in upholding justice and accountability, but also in ensuring that past mistakes will not be repeated in the future,” he stressed.
He added that the department remains fully committed to ensuring TH continues to stand as a resilient, reputable haj management institution that retains the absolute trust of the Malaysian public.
The ministry’s strong stance follows Sultan Ibrahim’s explicit decree yesterday calling for the RCI investigation to be carried out exhaustively, ensuring that all guilty parties are brought to justice and that similar mismanagement never recurs.
The 211-page RCI report, published on July 29, unveiled major governance breakdowns and financial irregularities within the pilgrims fund management between 2014 and 2020.
A special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat is scheduled for tomorrow, Aug 11, to debate the explosive findings. – August 9, 2026
