KUALA LUMPUR — The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has been urged to intervene in the ongoing dispute within Perikatan Nasional (PN), with allegations that the coalition’s constitution has been breached.
Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz claimed that PAS had been using PN to advance its own political agenda, including making unilateral decisions that allegedly undermined the rights of other component parties, Bernama reported.
“The key issue is the need for the RoS to intervene urgently to ensure that PN is not arbitrarily used by PAS to make unilateral decisions that deny the rights of any component party or breach the coalition’s constitution.
“We want decisions by the PN Supreme Council (MTPN) to be made constitutionally through proper meetings, rather than through interference by the PAS president (Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang),” he told Bernama today.
The call follows media reports last Friday quoting Abdul Hadi as saying that Bersatu had automatically ceased to be a PN member after the party expressed its intention to form a new coalition.
However, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali dismissed the claim, saying the party remains a legitimate PN member as the coalition’s constitution contains no provision for the automatic termination of a component party’s membership.
Mohamed Azmin also maintained that the PAS president has neither the authority nor veto power to decide Bersatu’s position within PN.
Tun Faisal said PN should not be controlled by any single party, stressing that the coalition must instead be managed fairly, transparently and with integrity in line with its constitution.
Meanwhile, Perak PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said Bersatu remains a member of the coalition for the time being. – August 9, 2026
