KUALA LUMPUR — Subang MP Wong Chen has confirmed that he has submitted his resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, paving the way for his departure from the parliamentary seat effective today.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the PKR lawmaker said the resignation would take effect at 5pm, adding that the move was communicated to the Speaker last Wednesday.
“On August 5th, I met with the Speaker and handed over my resignation letter as Member of Parliament, effective August 10th at 5:00 PM.
This was to allow parliamentary officers three working days to prepare for the vacancy of the Subang parliamentary seat.
We had a gentleman’s agreement not to release any details until August 10th at 5:00 PM.
We shall also be removing the honorific title of Yang Berhormat from all our billboards, signages and correspondence by next month.
I will be holding a press conference on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.”
Wong Chen said the arrangement was made to allow parliamentary officers sufficient time to prepare for the vacancy following his resignation.
He added that all references to the honorific title “Yang Berhormat” would be removed from his billboards, signages and correspondence by next month.
The former lawmaker is scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday at 11am, where he is expected to provide further details on his decision.

Wong was abruptly locked out of the MyKHAS funding portal in May, preventing him from applying for allocations for schools and community projects. His office said the directive came from “superiors in Putrajaya” without explanation, sparking accusations of political retaliation.
Around the same time, the Finance Ministry terminated his role as non‑executive chairman of Malaysia Debt Ventures (MDV) with only five days’ notice. Wong claimed he had resisted political interference at the loss‑making agency and suggested his removal was linked to his independent stance.
The fallout escalated in May when Wong attended the launch of Parti Bersama Malaysia, standing alongside Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi, both of whom had resigned from PKR to form the new reformist party.
His presence fuelled speculation that he may follow suit, especially after he hinted at resigning his Subang seat in protest over denied constituency allocations. – August 10, 2026
