PN seeks postponement of special Parliament sitting on Tabung Haji RCI report

Takiyuddin says Anwar should personally table and explain the findings to ensure accountability and a comprehensive explanation to MPs and the public

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has called for the special Parliament sitting scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji to be postponed.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the postponement would allow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to continue carrying out their duties as usual while the current situation involving the Prime Minister develops.

He said PN had submitted an official letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul requesting that the sitting be postponed to a more appropriate date.

“The Tabung Haji issue is a very important matter involving the interests of Muslims. Perikatan Nasional believes it would be appropriate for the report to be tabled personally by the Prime Minister,” he said in a statement today.

Takiyuddin said Anwar had previously explained the Tabung Haji issue to the public during the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign, while the RCI report had already been available for several years.

He said the Prime Minister’s presence in Parliament was important to allow him to explain and respond to the findings of the RCI.

“His presence in the Dewan Rakyat to explain and provide a response regarding the findings of the RCI is important so that he can be held accountable and so that the people can receive a comprehensive explanation,” he said.

PN said the letter requesting the postponement was officially received by the Speaker’s office today.

Earlier, Anwar underwent an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure to treat an abdominal hernia, also known as a para-umbilical hernia.

Head of the Prime Minister’s Medical Team Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah said the procedure went smoothly and Anwar was now undergoing physiotherapy while remaining under the supervision of a team of medical specialists to ensure a smooth recovery. – August 10, 2026
