KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed a defamation lawsuit against PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man over alleged defamatory remarks made during a political speech in Pahang last June.
The suit was filed at the High Court here today through the law firm S.N. Nair & Partners, with Anwar named as the plaintiff and Tuan Ibrahim as the defendant, Bernama reported.
In his statement of claim, Anwar alleged that Tuan Ibrahim had made defamatory statements referring to him during a ceramah at Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, Pahang, on June 14, which was attended by members of the public and media representatives.
Anwar claimed that a video recording of the speech was later uploaded, published and republished on the YouTube account “@Malaysianometry” on June 15, under the title “Tuan Ibrahim: ‘Pengulas bola direhatkan lepas sertai PAS, ini tanda-tanda PH nak mampus’”.
According to the claim, the 11-minute video had garnered more than 20,000 views, 482 likes and 65 comments as of the filing date, and remained accessible, viewable and shareable by the public.
Anwar further claimed that at 8.08am on June 15, Tuan Ibrahim had uploaded the video containing the alleged defamatory statements on his official Facebook account, “@Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man”. The video was also uploaded on the “PAS Pahang” Facebook account on June 24.
The Prime Minister alleged that the statements specifically and directly referred to him, his character, integrity, position, profession and status as the Prime Minister.
He claimed the remarks were false, baseless, excessive and malicious, and were made without any reasonable facts or supporting evidence.
“Plaintiff has never instructed, influenced or caused the Royal Malaysia Police to investigate or take action against any individual merely because that individual criticised the plaintiff, the government or any member of his administration,” according to the statement of claim.
Anwar also stated that he had never interfered, either directly or indirectly, in the constitutional or customary process involving the determination, selection, voting for or appointment of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
He claimed that as a result of Tuan Ibrahim’s actions, his reputation, character, dignity, integrity, credibility, good name and standing had suffered serious damage, both personally and in his capacity as Prime Minister, Finance Minister, PKR president, Pakatan Harapan chairman and Tambun MP.
Anwar is seeking an injunction to prevent Tuan Ibrahim or his representatives from continuing to publish or republish the alleged defamatory statements.
He is also seeking an order for the defendant to remove the allegedly defamatory material from any social media accounts, platforms or publications under his ownership, custody or control.
In addition to general damages, Anwar is seeking aggravated damages, exemplary damages and any other relief deemed fit and appropriate by the court. – August 10, 2026
