KUALA LUMPUR – Former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has signalled that he is prepared to relinquish his position as state PKR chairman following the party’s poor performance in the recent state election.
Aminuddin said he accepted the calls from six PKR branch leaders in Negri Sembilan for him to take responsibility for the party’s defeat, after PKR won only two of the 15 state seats it contested.
“I take note of the demands made by the six Negeri Sembilan branch leaders who want me to take responsibility for the defeat, and I would like to state publicly that I agree with their demands.
“As the state party leader, I accept this responsibility and I am ready to be held accountable. I do not want to run away from that responsibility, nor do I want to hide behind excuses,” he said.
He made the remarks while delivering his winding-up speech at the PKR National Congress held at the Melaka International Trade Centre today.
Aminuddin said the final decision on his position would be determined by the party leadership, adding that he would accept any decision made in the interest of strengthening PKR in Negri Sembilan.
“The position does not belong to me; the trust was given to me by the party. If the party leadership believes that a decision needs to be made for the future of Keadilan, then I agree and I am ready to accept it.
“I will respect whatever decision is made because what is important now is the future and strength of the party, rather than any individual position,” he said.
However, Aminuddin stressed that the election setback should not discourage the party from continuing its political struggle, but should instead serve as a chance for PKR to identify its weaknesses and rebuild public confidence.
“Defeat must not be a reason for us to stop fighting. On the contrary, this defeat must be the starting point for us to rebuild, strengthen the party and regain the confidence of the people.
“We need to learn from what happened, accept the shortcomings and work together to ensure PKR comes back stronger. That is what I hope for,” he said.
In the Aug 1 Negri Sembilan state election, PKR retained only the Chuah and Sri Tanjung state seats out of the 15 constituencies it contested.
Aminuddin, who contested the Linggi state seat, lost to Barisan Nasional incumbent Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli in a three-cornered contest.
Mohd Faizal secured 9,139 votes to win with a majority of 2,976 votes, while Aminuddin received 6,163 votes. Bersatu candidate Datuk Zamri Md Said garnered 391 votes. – August 16, 2026
