KUALA LUMPUR – The Immigration Department will take appropriate action following a fatal road accident involving one of its vehicles along Jalan Sultan Ismail here early today, based on the findings of police and its own internal investigation.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the department viewed the incident seriously and would take appropriate action based on the findings of both investigations.

“The department respects the ongoing investigation process and will not make any conclusions that could pre-empt the findings of the authorities,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook today.

Zakaria said the department would give its full cooperation to police in determining the cause of the accident.

He said an internal investigation would also be conducted to examine compliance with standard operating procedures and safety aspects involving the operation of department vehicles.

Zakaria urged anyone with information about the incident to assist the authorities, while calling on the public to respect the privacy and sensitivities of the victims’ families.

He also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified images, recordings or information related to the incident.

The department expressed its condolences and sympathy to the victims’ families and wished those receiving treatment a speedy recovery. – August 19, 2026
