KUALA LUMPUR — KL City FC have cleared the transfer ban imposed on the club after settling close to RM1 million in outstanding payments involving former foreign players, club officials and fines imposed by FIFA.
The development comes as a timely boost for the City Boys ahead of the 2026-2027 Malaysia Super League season, with the club now free to register new players and strengthen Datuk Dollah Salleh’s squad.
KL City FC chairman Syed Yazid Syed Omar confirmed that the restrictions were no longer in place, giving the club greater flexibility to reinforce the squad if necessary.
“There is no transfer ban hanging over KL City anymore. All the necessary payments have been made, and we now have the freedom to bring in players if the team requires additional reinforcements.
“This is important because it gives the coaching staff and management the flexibility to make decisions based on the needs of the squad,” he told Scoop when contacted.
The settlement is understood to involve former foreign players and club officials, including Adrijan Rudovic, Lazar Sajcic, Miroslav Kuljanac, Jovan Motika and Patrick Reichelt.
With the administrative issues now resolved, Syed Yazid, who is also Kuala Lumpur Football Association president, said the club must now shift its focus to its performance on the pitch.
“We have dealt with the matters that were holding the club back. The next step is to build a team capable of competing and to give the coaching staff the support they need throughout the season.
“I want to see KL City give every opponent a proper fight. Results will ultimately determine our season, and the players now have the opportunity to show what this team is capable of.
“We know there will be challenges, but the important thing is for the team to approach every match with the right mentality and make KL City a difficult side to play against,” he said. – August 19, 2026
