KUALA LUMPUR – Police are widening their investigation into matters involving Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), with more individuals, including witnesses based overseas, expected to be called to have their statements recorded.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said five investigation papers had been opened, covering cases involving TH as well as matters highlighted in the Tabung Haji Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report.
So far, Rusdi said that police have recorded statements from 127 individuals to assist with the investigations.
“Several more people will be called to have their statements recorded, including witnesses from overseas,” he said in a statement today.
Rusdi said the investigations were being conducted under several laws, including the Penal Code, Tabung Haji Act 1995, Companies Act 1965 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
He said the police would continue to conduct the investigations independently, transparently and professionally, in accordance with the law.
“Any party found to be involved in any criminal conduct will be subject to appropriate action under the applicable laws,” he said.
Rusdi also urged the public to refrain from speculation or spreading unverified information while the investigations are ongoing.
He added that updates on the case should be obtained only through official channels to prevent confusion and avoid any interference with the investigation process.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for the investigation into TH to be conducted immediately and transparently, stressing that any shortcomings identified must be addressed, with greater emphasis placed on the institution’s management and governance.
He also cautioned against turning the investigation into a racial or religious issue, saying accountability and good governance should take precedence.
“If there is, we identify the problem, we take action. So don’t make this a racial or religious issue. Like what happened in Tabung Haji.”
Anwar said Muslims and Malays, in particular, should be more serious and vigilant when it comes to management, ethics and values, as they should strive to set an example.
“In fact, if you ask me, Muslims, Malays should be more serious and meticulous in matters of management, morals and values. Because we should be an example,” he said during a Friendly Session with Felda’s top management and managers at a hotel in Bangi. – August 21, 2026
