KUALA LUMPUR – No attempts have been detected by militants or guerrillas from Southern Thailand to cross into Kelantan following a series of coordinated bombings and violent attacks across three southern Thai provinces last night, the General Operations Force (PGA) said.
Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said security measures along the Malaysia-Thailand border have been strengthened as a precaution, with front-line personnel placed on heightened alert for any possible infiltration attempts, Bernama reported.
“We are constantly reinforcing border controls and reminding our front-line teams to stay vigilant. We will act swiftly if there are any incidents or attempts to enter,” he told Bernama today.
He said the main ongoing challenge along the border remains the entry of undocumented migrants, rather than any militant-related activity.
Ahmad Radzi also highlighted the strong cooperation between Malaysian and Thai authorities, with the Regional Border Committee (RBC) continuing to serve as an important platform for intelligence-sharing and security coordination.
The RBC meeting is scheduled to take place from Sept 1 to 3 in Hat Yai, Thailand, and will involve Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah, the acting Perlis police chief, Ahmad Radzi, and representatives from the Malaysian Armed Forces.
“We maintain a continuous exchange of intelligence, and our cooperation with Thai authorities has always been solid,” he emphasised.
He added that the RBC operates through six working groups focusing on areas including border management, land affairs, disaster response and intelligence, aimed at strengthening security collaboration between Malaysia and Thailand.
A Bernama check in Pekan Rantau Panjang near the border today found that PGA personnel have stepped up patrols and surveillance at strategic locations, particularly along key routes leading towards the frontier.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff confirmed that no Malaysians were affected by the bombings and violence reported across three southern Thai provinces.
He advised Malaysians to exercise caution and defer non-essential travel to Thailand until the situation improves.
Narathiwat province was placed under a curfew from 10.15 pm last night until 5 am today following reports of more than 50 bombings, arson attacks targeting government offices and tyre-burning incidents.
The explosions, which were heard from Narathiwat last night, caused concern among border communities, with residents in Kampung Lubok Gong and Kampung Tersang in Rantau Panjang reporting that the blasts had shaken homes and raised alarm. – August 23, 2026
