PUTRAJAYA — A former minister detained by the anti-graft authority yesterday will be remanded for five days to facilitate investigations into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Tabung Haji (TH).
The remand order, until Sunday, was issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) made the application at the Magistrate’s Court here today, Bernama reports.
The ex-minister, in his 60s, arrived at 10.25 am for remand proceedings wearing an orange MACC remand shirt.
He was arrested at about 4.30 pm yesterday while he was at the MACC headquarters to have his statement recorded in connection with investigations TH investments.
According to MACC on its TikTok account yesterday when announcing the arrest, the former minister’s arrest was related to a hotel lease issue involving TH in Saudi Arabia.
The TH RCI report was made public on July 29, documenting various weaknesses in TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, as well as listing problematic investments requiring a forensic audit.
The report also stated that there were suspicious transactions and concealment of information.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
