KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed claims that his relationship with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has deteriorated, insisting that there were no issues between them.
“I do not have any problems with the prime minister,” he said, as quoted by Sinar Harian.
Ahmad Zahid said there were no issues involving either his personal or official relationship with Anwar, including during Cabinet meetings and official functions.
“I do not have any problems, whether personally or officially.
“There are no problems between us when we are in Cabinet meetings or at official events,” he said.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman was responding to a report by a foreign news outlet which claimed that relations between him and Anwar had become increasingly tense following several developments, including BN’s decision to go against Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
The report also claimed that the situation was influenced by pressure from DAP for institutional reforms to be carried out by the end of the year, while Anwar, as prime minister, needed the support of Ahmad Zahid’s bloc to secure a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat before constitutional amendments could be made.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, stressed that BN, as a component of the unity government, would continue prioritising political stability until the government completes its current term.
“What is important for Barisan Nasional, as one of the components in the unity government, is political stability in this country until the end of the term.
“We carry out the decision-making process and reach decisions professionally,” he said.
He said maintaining political stability was crucial to preventing uncertainties that could affect investor confidence, particularly among foreign investors, while supporting efforts to strengthen the country’s economic growth.
“We know that the Umno general assembly resolution has determined that we are in this unity government until the end of the term, and this is what we are doing to ensure complete political stability.
“This is to avoid any problems, especially involving foreign investors, FDI (foreign direct investment), and also to enhance the country’s economic growth,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid made the remarks after attending the closing ceremony of the National Orang Asli Sports Carnival in Iskandar Puteri on Sunday (September 6). – September 6, 2026
