KUALA LUMPUR — As Southeast Asia accelerates its push towards artificial intelligence (AI), cloud technologies and digital trade, the next challenge lies not in setting ambitions but in creating common ground. Building trusted infrastructure, aligning regulations and strengthening digital resilience will be key to shaping ASEAN’s digital future.
These issues will take centre stage at M360 ASEAN 2026, a regional forum aimed at connecting policymakers, regulators, mobile operators and technology leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges surrounding digital transformation.
Scheduled for Sept 9 and 10 in Kuala Lumpur, the event is part of the global M360 Series and will serve as a platform for discussions on critical areas including AI adoption, cloud collaboration, digital trust, inclusive connectivity and resilient communications networks.
ASEAN stands at a crucial point in its digital journey. A more connected regional digital economy could create new opportunities for businesses, improve access to essential services and encourage innovation across various sectors. However, achieving this vision requires countries to move beyond individual digital strategies and work towards shared solutions.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said Malaysia remains committed to supporting ASEAN’s efforts to build a more connected and inclusive digital ecosystem.
“Malaysia is proud to support ASEAN’s journey towards a more integrated, innovative and inclusive digital future. By strengthening collaboration across governments, industry and communities, we can unlock new opportunities for growth, expand digital participation and ensure the benefits of digital transformation are shared across the region. M360 ASEAN is an important platform to advance this shared vision,” he noted on the event’s website.
Reliable connectivity remains central to this effort. With growing demand for AI-powered services, cloud computing and data-driven applications, ASEAN will require robust networks capable of supporting increasingly digital economies.
At the same time, the rapid expansion of AI brings new challenges, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, data protection, governance and responsible deployment. Ensuring public confidence in digital technologies will be essential as the region embraces greater digitalisation.
Regional cooperation will therefore play a decisive role. Closer alignment between regulatory systems, stronger partnerships between governments and industry players, and initiatives to close digital gaps will help ensure that technological progress benefits communities across ASEAN.
Malaysia, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is expected to play a key role in facilitating these discussions. As the host partner of M360 ASEAN 2026, MCMC provides a platform for Malaysia to contribute to broader regional conversations on digital development.
The value of M360 ASEAN extends beyond the two-day gathering itself. By bringing together key stakeholders from across the digital ecosystem, the forum offers an opportunity to share experiences, identify common priorities and explore practical approaches to cross-border collaboration.
