KUALA LUMPUR — Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau has demanded an Umno division leader apologise to all Christians for making a joke about a priest, a nun and the Bible during the recent Umno annual general assembly.
On Facebook, Wilfred, who is president of Sabah party UPKO, posted a video of Sepang Umno chief Datuk Noorazli Said speaking when during debates at the assembly last Saturday.
“Whether he meant it as a joke or if he was making insinuations, it was grossly inappropriate and offensive.
“Sacred Scripture, Catholic priests and religious sisters should not be sexualised or ridiculed mores by a major national political party,” Wilfred said.
“The speaker should acknowledge his poor judgment, retract his false reference to Psalm 129 and offer an unqualified public apology to Catholics and the wider Christian community,” the Sabah politician and member of Gabungan Rakyat Sarawak said.
In the clip posted by Wilfred, Noorazli said a priest driving a manual Proton Saga was giving a nun a ride home. The priest’s hand would brush against the nun’s thigh whenever he chased gears. The nun chides the priest by reminding him of Psalm 129 in the Bible.
Noorazli said the priest, upon checking the Psalm in his bible later, finds the verse “Go further up and you will find success”.
However, this line does not appear at all in the Psalm, Wilfred noted.
Noorazli in his speech said the story he told was meant to show the importance of staying focused on one’s mission. The Umno annual general assembly ended yesterday. – September 14, 2026
