KUALA LUMPUR — Umno will launch a fund to help former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak settle the RM50 million fine imposed as part of his conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the fundraising initiative would be open to the party’s leaders, members and supporters, as well as others who wished to contribute voluntarily.
He said the initiative would be conducted transparently and in an orderly manner while complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
“UMNO also hereby takes the initiative to launch a Contribution Fund to help ease the burden on Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib in settling the RM50 million fine imposed.”
Zahid said Umno welcomed the decision allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, describing the development as significant for the former prime minister, his family and party members who had continued to hope and pray for the outcome.
“UMNO welcomes with gratitude the decision that allows Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence through house arrest.”
He also expressed the party’s appreciation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, saying Umno respected the King’s wisdom and discretion in granting the conditional pardon.
“With utmost respect, on behalf of the entire leadership and members of UMNO, I humbly express our deepest gratitude to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”
Zahid said Umno had maintained from the outset that Najib’s application should be pursued through the proper channels and with due respect for the country’s institutions.
“UMNO’s position from the outset has been to pursue this application with due process and humility, through the channels provided. Respect for the institution of the Malay Rulers, the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law will continue to be our guiding principles.”
He urged Umno members to receive the development with gratitude, while maintaining decorum and respecting the processes and conditions that had been set.
“I call on all Umno members to receive this development with gratitude, observe decorum in every expression and respect all the processes that have been established.”
Zahid said the King’s decision would bring considerable relief to Najib and his family and would be remembered with appreciation by Umno.
“With all humility, Umno expresses its infinite gratitude for this development. His Majesty’s graciousness brings immense relief to Dato’ Sri Najib and his family and will always be remembered with profound appreciation by the entire Umno family.”
He also conveyed his prayers for the King’s wellbeing and for continued peace and harmony in Malaysia.
“May Allah SWT continue to grant His Majesty wellbeing and preserve the peace and harmony of the country. Daulat Tuanku.”
The statement follows the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya today, which resulted in a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the stipulated conditions. – September 18, 2026
