KUALA LUMPUR – Former Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has taken on a major higher education leadership role following his appointment as the new chairman of the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Board of Directors.
His three-year tenure officially took effect on September 16, succeeding Datuk Husaini Omar whose term has concluded.
In a statement today, UTeM confirmed that the appointment was approved by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, noting that Ayob Khan’s extensive background in high-level enforcement and strategic leadership will propel the university’s institutional roadmap forward.
“UTeM believes his extensive experience and strong strategic management credentials will enable him to lead the UTeM Board in addressing the challenges ahead,” the university stated.
UTeM added that Ayob Khan’s leadership is expected to inject a new dimension into its corporate governance, broaden its strategic networks, and reinforce its core mission of advancing technical education in Malaysia.
The university also expressed its deep appreciation to outgoing chairman Husaini for his dedicated service and contributions during his tenure. – September 22, 2026
