KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his grief over the passing of his elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim, who died while he was away on an official visit to China.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Anwar shared a past photograph of himself embracing Idrus, 83, saying he received the heartbreaking news while on his way back to Malaysia.
“On my journey back to Malaysia, I received the heartbreaking news that my brother, Idrus Ibrahim, had passed away,” Anwar wrote.
“It is difficult for me to express this sense of loss when someone who shared so many memories throughout my life’s journey is no longer here. Only Allah SWT knows how heavy my heart is in accepting this reality.”
Anwar said he regretted not being able to be by his brother’s side during his final moments but accepted the loss despite the pain of a separation that no one is ever prepared to face.
“I am saddened that I was unable to be by his side during his final moments, but I accept it even as my heart continues to come to terms with a farewell that we are never prepared to face.”
He thanked Idrus for the memories and kindness he left behind, saying they would remain etched in the hearts of the family.
“Thank you for all the memories and kindness you left behind. Everything will remain forever etched in our memories and hearts.”
Anwar also called on the public to pray for Idrus, asking that Allah SWT forgive his shortcomings, grant mercy upon his soul and place him among those who have faith and perform righteous deeds.
“Please offer your prayers for the late Idrus Ibrahim. May Allah SWT forgive all his shortcomings, shower mercy upon his soul and place him among His servants who have faith and perform righteous deeds.”
The Prime Minister returned to Malaysia after concluding a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, where he held discussions with Chinese leaders and industry players.
During the visit, Malaysia secured more than RM28 billion in potential investment commitments from Chinese companies across sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, electric vehicles, biotechnology and advanced medical devices.
Anwar said the commitments reflected investor confidence in Malaysia’s stability and economic policies.
“The vast majority of these companies expressed their commitment to increasing investments due to their confidence in our stability and the policies we are currently implementing.
“Overall, these business meetings recorded potential investments valued at over RM28 billion,” he said. – September 24, 2026
