KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s climb to second place in global passport strength is a landmark milestone proving international confidence in the nation’s security, stability, and institutional integrity, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Beyond prestige, Saifuddin highlighted that the achievement yields concrete advantages for everyday Malaysians through seamless international travel, broader career prospects, and expanded global business networks.
“Under the MADANI Economy framework, among the country’s key focuses is to raise the country’s growth ceiling by expanding its international reach, strengthening its diplomatic standing and enhancing Malaysia’s competitiveness on the world stage,” he wrote in a Facebook post today.
Saifuddin noted that maintaining robust, highly trusted institutions is critical to keeping the world’s doors open to the nation’s citizens.
According to The Passport Index Global Ranking 2026, the Malaysian passport advanced to the second position globally—moving up from third place last year—giving holders hassle-free access to 175 destinations worldwide.
The minister credited the Home Ministry (KDN) and the Immigration Department (JIM) for their relentless focus on safeguarding travel document standards and border security.
“KDN and JIM will safeguard the integrity of Malaysian passports and travel documents so that they continue to be respected and trusted internationally,” he said.
He added that enhanced global mobility acts as a catalyst for national economic growth and trade expansion.
“In terms of business growth and investment, it makes it easier for Malaysian entrepreneurs to explore new markets, build international business networks and create more economic opportunities, ultimately benefiting families and the country,” he said.
Moving forward, Saifuddin urged both KDN and JIM to leverage this momentum to continuously elevate public service quality, efficiency, and integrity across the board. – October 2, 2026
