KUALA LUMPUR – Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung has stepped down with immediate effect, saying he would not accept a lawmaker’s salary if he was no longer able to perform his duties meaningfully.
Lee said his decision came after PKR suspended his party membership for three years, with the formal notice served to him on September 30, local media reported.
“Should I continue accepting a salary as a member of parliament while simply sitting silently like a stump? No.
“Therefore, I, Lee Chean Chung, have today decided to resign unconditionally as the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference here today, Lee also announced that he would leave PKR, with the resignation letter to be submitted by Monday.
“I will submit the letter to quit the party by Monday,” he said.
He said he would not remain in Parliament merely to draw a salary without being able to fully carry out his responsibilities as an elected representative. – October 2, 2026
