KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged political leaders in the state to avoid quarrels and power struggles that could create division, calling on them to focus instead on the state’s development and the welfare of its people.
He said differences in political views and ideologies should not prevent cooperation in the interests of Selangor and its people.
“Leadership responsibilities must be carried out with full integrity, with the interests of the people taking precedence over personal interests or those of political groups,” he said in a post shared by the Selangor Royal Office on Facebook today.
Sultan Sharafuddin had earlier hosted a luncheon with current Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and former menteris besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The gathering followed the Sultan’s attendance at a Yasin recitation, tahlil and thanksgiving prayer ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of his reign at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here.
He later performed Friday prayers alongside about 15,000 worshippers who attended the event.
During the luncheon, Sultan Sharafuddin stressed that Selangor’s continued progress depended on social harmony and administrative stability.
He urged political leaders to maintain mutual respect and use constructive dialogue to resolve differences, while directing their efforts towards developing the state and supporting people in need.
The meeting brought together the current state administration and two former menteris besar, reflecting the Sultan’s continued engagement with Selangor’s political leadership and his concern for the state’s direction and the well-being of its people. – October 2, 2026
