Johor-Singapore RTS Link passenger service expected to start in February 2027

All system and operational trials are targeted for completion by Dec 31, ahead of safety certification and regulatory approvals

KUALA LUMPUR — Passenger services for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link are expected to begin in February 2027, with system testing and operational trials targeted for completion by Dec 31.

RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) said the timeline takes into account the remaining works, as well as the time required for third-party safety certification and approvals from the relevant authorities in both countries, Bernama reported.

“Our goal is to provide a safe and reliable service for the RTS Link,” it said in a statement today.

The RTS Link is a key Malaysia-Singapore project connecting Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore.

The service will have a peak capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with the journey between the two stations expected to take about five minutes.

Integrated Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities will also be located at the Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North stations, allowing passengers to complete immigration clearance at their departure station.

RTSO said the project is expected to significantly improve cross-border connectivity and make daily travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore more convenient.

It added that the RTS Link is also expected to strengthen ties between the people of both countries while generating shared economic and social benefits. — October 2, 2026
