KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will have to appoint a new deputy chairman for its Integrity Committee after Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain declined the position, citing time constraints and his existing responsibilities.
FAM said today that Shuhaily was unable to accept the appointment due to the demands of his current role as AKPS director-general.
In a statement, the association said it respected Shuhaily’s decision and thanked him for his willingness to contribute to FAM’s efforts to strengthen integrity and governance.
“FAM wishes to inform that Shuhaily is unable to accept his appointment as deputy chairman of the FAM Integrity Committee due to time constraints and his responsibilities in AKPS,” it said.
“FAM respects the decision and records its appreciation to Shuhaily for his willingness and commitment previously to assist FAM in strengthening integrity and governance.”
FAM added that it would ensure the Integrity Committee continued to function effectively as part of its efforts to strengthen integrity, governance and accountability within the association.
Shuhaily’s decision comes just days after FAM’s new leadership unveiled a reshuffle of key positions across its standing committees.
Former deputy inspector-general of police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay was appointed chairman of the Integrity Committee for the remainder of the 2025-2029 term, with Shuhaily named as his deputy.
The appointments were announced following the sixth FAM Executive Committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Sept 30, chaired by newly elected FAM president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan.
The reshuffle was among Ab Ghani’s first major administrative moves since he defeated former Selangor Football Association president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar 20-5 at FAM’s second extraordinary congress on Sept 17.
The new line-up brought together senior figures from enforcement, security, legal and football administration backgrounds, with particular emphasis placed on integrity, finance, legal affairs, security and national team management.
The Integrity Committee assumes added importance as FAM seeks to restore confidence in the association following the controversy surrounding the eligibility and documentation of seven players who were sanctioned by FIFA.
Ayob Khan, who previously served as Johor police chief and deputy inspector-general of police, will now oversee FAM’s integrity agenda as the association seeks to strengthen its governance and accountability mechanisms.
FAM said the committee would continue to carry out its functions despite Shuhaily’s decision not to take up the deputy chairman’s position. – October 5, 2026
