KUALA LUMPUR – Police are investigating allegations that several lawyers harassed a forensic specialist in the case involving the death of detainee Noorizwan Zulkefly.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the doctor was a civil servant and had lodged a police report.

He said the investigation was being conducted under Sections 506, 186 and 189 of the Penal Code.

“The doctor concerned is a civil servant and a police report has been received from him. The investigation is ongoing, and police are recording statements from the relevant parties,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman here today.

Noorizwan Zulkefly, 42, was detained by Cheras police on Sept 19 to assist in investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 379 of the Penal Code.

The deceased died in police custody on Oct 1.

The case also drew the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who directed police to conduct a thorough, transparent and uncompromising investigation into Noorizwan’s death.

Anwar said he had contacted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail to obtain further information about the case.

Meanwhile, Kumar said police had recorded statements from 14 individuals so far, including the doctor concerned, three lawyers linked to the case and Noorizwan’s family members.

On the latest developments in the investigation into Noorizwan’s death, Kumar said the investigation papers would be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Wednesday for further action.

Previously, he said the investigation into Noorizwan’s death had been taken over by the Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of Bukit Aman CID and was being investigated under Section 331 of the Penal Code.

The classification was made after a statement recorded from the consultant forensic medicine specialist at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz indicated that external injuries had been found on several parts of the deceased’s body.

The pattern of injuries was found to be consistent with blunt-force trauma and not self-inflicted.

However, the full post-mortem report confirming the cause of death has yet to be obtained, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is awaiting further information. – November 2, 2026
