Najib headed home today?: Police swarm Jalan Langgak Duta amid house arrest speculation

Top Sentul police brass and tight cordons seal the perimeter around Najib Razak’s residence this morning, sparking intense speculation over whether the former prime minister is hours away from serving the rest of his sentence under house arrest

KUALA LUMPUR – Is former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the verge of returning to his Jalan Langgak Duta residence today to serve out the remainder of his prison term under house arrest?

Security was abruptly tightened outside the residence this morning as a heavy police contingent moved into position, fueling widespread buzz that the former premier could be escorted home as early as this afternoon, following Friday prayers.

The anticipated homecoming follows reports by Berita Harian indicating that Najib could be permitted to serve his sentence at home after settling an undisclosed required payment.

The sudden operation began around 10.30 am when a convoy of officers and personnel from the Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD Sentul) arrived in force. Just 15 minutes later, Sentul District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam and his deputy arrived on site to directly oversee perimeter security.

Access was swiftly restricted. On-duty officers cordoned off the perimeter, barring the media from approaching the gates while allowing coverage only from a designated vantage point at the junction leading to the property.

On the ground, near-total deployment of IPD Sentul’s senior command was evident. Roughly 30 officers and personnel were stationed across the immediate vicinity alongside patrol cars and mobile vans. Two police tents have also been erected at the site to establish an active operational base.

Speaking to reporters outside the residence, Anuar Bakri confirmed that the sudden security blanket is an anticipatory protocol should a house arrest order take effect today.

“Yes, we are preparing for control and surveillance along the access routes to Datuk Seri Najib’s residence starting this morning.

“So far, we have not obtained precise information, but we are prepared for any possibility,” he said.

Anuar Bakri added that yellow police tape has been cordoned across key access points to prevent unauthorised entry, as authorities wait on confirmation whether the high-profile inmate will indeed cross his front gates before the day ends. – November 6, 2026
