KUALA LUMPUR — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has sacked one of its members and suspended two others, the party announced in a statement today.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the decision was made during the Supreme Leadership Council meeting held on Wednesday at Perikatan Nasional’s headquarters.

“The Supreme Leadership Council decided to dismiss one of its members and suspend two others immediately for three years for violating Clause 10.2.2 of the Bersatu Constitution due to inciting, boycotting and sabotaging the Perikatan Nasional election campaign.

“Bersatu insists that any member who does not obtain the party’s permission and is caught to have breached the party’s disciplinary code by contesting, being a proposer or supporter of any other party or an independent candidate, his or her membership will be terminated immediately in accordance with Clause 10.2.4 of the Bersatu Constitution,” read the statement.

However, Hamzah did not reveal the identities of the members sacked by the party.

Bersatu added that they are committed to ensuring the coalition’s victory in the 2023 state elections on August 12. — July 29, 2023
