SHAH ALAM – The Selangor state government, together with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), has devised and implemented five integrated strategies to ensure that the Selangor Aero Park (SAP) @KLIA Aeropolis project can attract high-impact foreign investments in the aerospace sector.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the first strategy, implemented through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor), involves establishing a world-class ecosystem with access to the global market through the presence of leading companies such as Airbus Helicopters, GE Aviation, and Spirit AeroSystems.
“We are able to provide a future-focused ecosystem that promotes innovation through access to research and development (R&D) support, high-end dedicated facilities, as well as collaboration opportunities with renowned academic institutions and industry partners.
“We believe that such an environment will accelerate technology development and the commercialisation process,” he said during the Selangor state legislative assembly sitting today.
He was answering a question from Pua Pei Ling (Bukit Lanjan-PH), who asked about the state government’s efforts to ensure SAP is able to attract high-impact foreign investments in the aerospace sector.
Ng said SAP is supported by an investor-centric governance system that enables faster and more efficient coordination among federal, state and local authorities.
“This will accelerate the process of company placements and physical development, including approvals for development and licensing,” he said.
In addition, Ng mentioned the strengthening of talent and workforce development programmes for the aerospace industry, including the establishment of the Aerospace Talent Centre as a centralised talent development hub and the implementation of future skills development programmes under the national-level MyAero framework.
He said another strategy involves the creation of integrated logistics facilities with multimodal transport connectivity, as SAP is located near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and finally, the provision of R&D facilities to drive innovation and technological advancement.
Ng noted that SAP is one of the key initiatives under the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 (MAIB 2030), with the potential to create more than 32,000 job opportunities by 2030.
“The strategic collaboration between MBI and the National Aerospace Industry Corporation (NAICO) will strengthen the human capital ecosystem in this sector through the development of a highly skilled and regionally competitive workforce,” he said.
Ng disclosed that MBI and MAHB are in active discussions with global aerospace industry players for them to establish their operations in Selangor.
These discussions, he added, focus on high-precision sectors, MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul), aviation technology, and smart logistics to enhance the entire aerospace value chain in Selangor. – July 9, 2025
