Photo of the day: Under the shade of green

7:15 PM MYT

A construction worker squats to rest and take shelter from the sweltering heat under a billboard of trees and greenery at Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur. Despite not being the real thing, it still manages to give off a refreshing and cooling sensation to its surroundings.

Recently, a task force to manage “high-risk trees” was formed following the many cases of fallen and uprooted trees in the city caused by heavy rain and wind. It is expected to develop a more comprehensive guideline and take note of the best practices by other countries in maintaining and managing trees in Kuala Lumpur.

With this initiative, hopefully, the public – including this construction worker – can find shade under a real tree, instead of an illustration, without having to worry about it being uprooted. – July 11, 2024
