KUALA LUMPUR – The problem with caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is he is slow to confess when caught in a lie, alleged Renggit assemblyman Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

Puad, who is also Umno Supreme Council member, claimed Sanusi was taken by surprise when a photograph of the Kedah PAS leader and Chinese national known as So Loi Fat surfaced.

“Only then he admitted. Still, he tried giving stupid excuses. He said the person did not know English or Malay. So, they didn’t talk about anything. Having trouble finding a translator?

“Enough Sanusi. Stop fooling the people,” Puad wrote in a Facebook post today.

Yesterday, Scoop reported Sanusi as saying that he only knew it was So after being shown the photo.

“I took pictures with many people – bachelors, girls and everyone there earlier (in the programme). Many people took pictures with me. I’m popular.

“I only know him as Mr So. Someone showed the photo to me. Then I knew it was So Loi Fat.”

Yesterday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail shared several photos of Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) documents related to the theft of rare earth elements (REE) in Bukit Enggang, Sik in Kedah.

The photos he shared included one showing Sanusi with an individual believed to be So Loi Fat, one of two employees brought in by MBI to conduct exploration work in the forest reserve.

“I also wish to show documents signed by MBI chief executive officer Muhammad Sobri Osman. So, here clearly is an application for professional visit passes for two China nationals who are working for MBI as their employer.

“The letter is really from the Menteri Besar and CEO with the names of two China nationals… I have brought this up many times but Muhammad Sanusi has tried to spin the matter with other issues. So I hope he will take the responsibility and answer all questions brought up relating to the REE issue.”

In response, Sanusi had said So told him via an interpreter that some RM30 million was spent to prepare for the REE project.

Sanusi also claimed the agreement between MBI and a company over REE was signed before he took over as menteri besar.

Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan and Terengganu will go to the polls on August 12, with the Kuala Terengganu by-election held simultaneously. Early voting is on August 8. – August 2, 2023
