Ex-PM admitted overnight for observation, says source

KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) this evening.

The nonagenarian is reportedly at the specialist centre for a check-up and has been warded overnight for further observations, a person familiar with the matter said.

Scoop has also been made to understand that the nonagenarian is “not in critical condition”.

In a posting on his Twitter account at 9.18pm, Dr Mahathir confirmed that he was admitted to IJN on Tuesday for an infection-related treatment.

He also shared pictures of himself “writing and going through some files” in the hospital ward today.

Media personnel were seen stationed outside IJN from as early as 8pm today.

The last time Dr Mahathir was reportedly admitted to IJN was in September last year after he contracted Covid-19.

Prior to that, the 98-year-old was admitted to IJN to undergo health screenings and was released about eight days later after undergoing several tests. – August 3, 2023
