KUALA LUMPUR – The apology was all an act, as Penang PAS remains racist and non-inclusive, says a Perikatan Nasional (PN) leader over the ongoing row after Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau was recently chased out of a ceramah in the state.
“Just a day after PAS central leadership issued an apology, the Penang PAS chief has signalled that the party will not help Lau in his efforts to wrest the Bayan Lepas state seat.”
The insider told Scoop that the reason Penang PAS chased out Lau was under the assumption that a Chinese leader should not enter a Malay area.
“Limited resources are never the issue, it is a racial one. It looks like Penang PAS remains unrepentant, and the apology was a show. It is still racist and non-inclusive.”
The source, who is a PN central committee member, added that if PAS was truly apologetic, the party must fire its Penang chief Fauzi Yusof, Tasek Gelugor division chief Sobri Saleh, and Bayan Lepas division chief Iszuree Ibrahim.
“It is unfortunate that PAS is fielding Fauzi as a candidate in Sg Dua and Sobri for Permatang Berangan. PN’s image will continue to deteriorate if actions are not taken against the masterminds behind these divisive actions.
“No one will believe (PN chairman) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when he talks about unity and racial integration after this.”
Fauzi was reported as saying today that Penang PAS is not mounting a boycott against Lau over the debacle, but is unable to help due to limited resources.
Earlier, some PAS grassroots members were unhappy over PN fielding Lau, claiming he was a “parachute” candidate and that the Bayan Lepas seat was a Malay-majority area.
Later, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Lau should have been welcomed and treated as a guest based on the principles of Islam. – August 5, 2023
