Green Party Malaysia’s rant against Selangor govt draws miniscule crowd

Party secretary lobs accusations against the Selangor MB in regards to various development projects in the state

KUALA LUMPUR – It was a moment of awkwardness for Green Party Malaysia pro-tem secretary Abdul Razak Ismail, as he delivered a speech to mostly empty chairs at a recent Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah event in the Kota Anggerik state constituency in Selangor.

According to photos of the event shared with Scoop, Razak, a self-proclaimed environmentalist, was seen ranting to a crowd of about only 20 people, claiming that the deals behind certain Selangor projects were shady.

The sacked PKR man also mentioned the degazetting of forest reserves, namely Bukit Cerakah and Bukit Lagong.

In his speech last night, Razak said that he will be obtaining “documentations” for the above projects from a “friend” who is a state executive councillor.

Razak is currently facing legal action for allegedly defaming engineering and construction firm Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) over the Shah Alam Stadium redevelopment project.

In July of last year, MRCB received a non-binding letter of intent (LoI) for the purposes of conducting and delivering a detailed study on how to salvage the 28-year-old stadium.

Earlier, caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the corporation, whose main shareholder is the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), was invited to submit its proposal out of 15 other companies due to its strong financials and track record, having redeveloped the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex in 2017.

MRCB had submitted a proposal for the state to consider based on a cost and needs basis.

Meanwhile, the diminutive crowd on Tuesday night grew to about 30 individuals when PN’s Kota Anggerik candidate Mohamed Sukri Omar took to the stage.

Sukri then assured voters that the issues brought up by Razak would be addressed if he is given the mandate by the people of Kota Anggerik.

Also a no-show was guest of honour PN’s Arau MP, former Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

Formed in 2010 as a virtual movement, Razak said Green Party Malaysia has yet to be registered by the Registrar of Societies. – August 10, 2023
