KUALA LUMPUR – Public university students can now apply for subsidy assistance for domestic flights, the Transport Ministry said today.

In a statement, the ministry said students can start checking their eligibility for the subsidy via http://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my.

Eligible students can apply for the subsidy when they purchase their flight tickets from airline companies such as Malaysia Airlines (including MASwings and Firefly), AirAsia, Batik Air, and MY Airline, through their respective websites.

“The airline company will then issue a RM300 digital voucher to the qualified students as a credit shell,” the statement read.

At the same time, the ministry said that if the purchased ticket is less than RM300, the balance will be carried forward for the next purchase.

The last day to redeem the digital voucher is December 31.

However, students are still allowed to utilise the subsidy to purchase their air tickets after December 31.

Meanwhile, students who are not eligible can appeal to the Ministry of Higher Education through their respective universities.

For now, public university students who are registered under the academic year of 2022/2023 on June 30, 2023 are eligible to apply for the subsidy.

“This initiative by the unity government is in conjunction with Merdeka Day as Putrajaya is looking to strengthen the ties between the Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.” – August 15, 2023
