KUALA LUMPUR — The final concerned query from the wife of the co-pilot onboard yesterday’s ill-fated plane crash in Bandar Elmina was tragically left unanswered.

The wife, Christine Yong took to Instagram to share an emotional video compilation involving her late husband Heikal Aras Abdul Azim’s moments with their family of three sons and a daughter.

Part of the video was a screenshot of Yong’s final WhatsApp conversation with Heikal yesterday, where she had forwarded him news reports of the plane crash befores asking him if he is okay.

Attaching a brief message with the screenshot, Yong said: “You never replied.”

In the caption of the video, posted earlier today, Yong thanked the public for the outpour of kind words and support she had received since news of the crash was made known.

She also requested that she and her children, along with other families affected by the accident, be given the necessary space for them to deal with the sudden tragedy.

“Please stop all the speculation as this (is) impacting the kids and families who (are) going through hard times (at) this very moment,” she said.

“I will share more on the updates on (Heikal), (but) for now please understand the space we need, especially the kids.

“He (Heikal) is indeed Flying Higher now. Rest well, Heikal. The kids miss you very much.”

The crash, which occurred at about 2.50pm yesterday, resulted in 10 casualties, of which six were passengers and two crew members – including Heikal – onboard the Beechcraft 390 (Premiere 1) flight.

The remaining two victims were a Foodpanda delivery rider and a Grab driver passing by when the plane crashed.

The flight crashed two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang and did not make any mayday calls prior to its sudden crash. — August 18, 2023
