KUALA LUMPUR –  Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is set to file an application to strike out the three remaining money laundering charges that remain pending against him.

According to Malaysiakini, Muhyiddin’s defence counsel, Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, informed sessions court judge Azura Alwi of the matter at the Jalan Duta court complex here this morning.

“On the three (money laundering) charges, we will be applying to set aside the three charges under the AMLA (Anti-Money Laundering Act),” the lawyer was quoted as saying, adding that the striking-out bid would be per the Criminal Procedure Code.

The sessions court was also informed of Hisyam’s intentions to file a separate application to vary the conditions of Muhyiddin’s bail to allow the return of his passport.

Azura then set November 29 for case mention.

Last month, the Perikatan Nasional chairman succeeded in his attempt to quash all four bribery and abuse of power charges against him, amounting to RM232.5 million in connection with the Jana Wibawa project.

The verdict, which was read out by judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin at the high court, saw him rule that the four charges were vague, flawed, and unfounded because they did not contain details of the offences committed.

In addition to the four charges, Muhyiddin is also facing two charges of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to RM195 million from Bukhary Equity, which was deposited into Bersatu’s CIMB Bank account.

Muhyiddin was also charged in the Shah Alam sessions court on March 13 with three charges of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to RM5 million.

The case has since been transferred to the sessions court here to be tried with the other cases. – September 19, 2023
