KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor state government has announced a second-term assessment tax exemption for 426,656 low-cost houses in the state. This exemption period will be in effect from July 1 to December 31.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the tax exemption was among several decisions made during today’s state government meeting, to fulfil five main promises within a 100-day timeframe, following the formation of Selangor’s unity state government.

He said the tax exemption would involve a financial implication worth RM29,415,672.50 for all local authorities in the state.

“This targeted assistance is expected to increase disposable income for those in need, as well as to reduce the cost of living,” he said in a statement, today.

Amirudin said the state government will also give RM1,000 worth of incentives to 500 entrepreneurs in various fields including livestock raring, aquaculture and agro-based industry, as well as fishing, to assist the community in ensuring that the agricultural production rate can be increased.

He added that RM500 of the assistance will be disbursed in the form of cash, while the remaining RM500 will be given through plant inputs, equipment and raw materials.

“The disbursement will begin on October 31 through the cooperation of Agro Bank Selangor and Koperasi Kohijrah Warga Hijrah Selangor Berhad.”

He also said that a total of 760 imams will receive an increase in their monthly payment from RM1,300 to RM1,500 per month starting October 25, while the allowance for 1,900 nazirs, bilal and siak will also be increased by RM50 per month.

Amirudin said, through the incentive, nazir (mosque administrators) will get an allowance of RM300, bilal will be given RM340, while siak will receive RM290.

“The Selangor state government, in recognising the importance of the mosque as more than just a place of worship but also a place of learning, will increase the incentives for mosque officials as a sign of appreciation through progressive salaries.

“Overall, the incentive granted is an increase of RM2,964,000 and will be allocated annually as an effort by the state government to mobilise the message of Islam in Selangor.”

At the same time, in preparation for the northeast monsoon, the Smart Selangor Operation Centre will coordinate and monitor information disbursement to the public, in collaboration with Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Amirudin said.

Furthermore, he said, the temporary flood relief centres (PPS) located at areas within risk of disasters will be equipped with facilities that provide basic needs and food kit supplies.

“All local authorities, including Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the Department of Public Works (JKR) and other relevant department are responsible for immediately cleaning up reservoirs, drains and ditches, especially within areas of high risk of flooding to enable the water drainage system to function optimally.

“In addition to this, Member of Parliament and State Assembly Members (Adun) at the Disaster Management Committee district level and the Members of State Government meeting council were also assigned according to the scope set,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government will work with Selangor’s Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), several agencies and institutions including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur and Tohuku University, to reduce risk at the local level by involving the public and local communities.

Amirudin, at the Selangor Menteri Besar Special Mandate on August 11 announced that five commitments, would be implemented within 100 days of the unity Selangor state government administration remaining in power after the state election (PRN).

He said the confidence in delivering these five commitments is not born out of arrogance but is instead rooted in trust in the wisdom and support of the people of the state. – October 4, 2023
