KUALA LUMPUR – Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon two people this month to provide their testimonies as part of its probe into Human Resource Development Corp (HRD Corp).
PAC deputy chair Wong Shu Qi said Human Resources Ministry deputy secretary-general (Policy and International) Datuk Amran Ahmad and HRD Corp chief executive Datuk Shahul Dawood will be summoned for a proceeding scheduled on October 23.
“This proceeding is to examine the management and effectiveness of HRD Corp’s programmes, so that government funds are managed efficiently and effectively, according to set guidelines,” she said at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.
Wong added that PAC will examine the programmes and training courses provided by HRD Corp.
“This is to ensure that funds allocated for manpower and competence improvement programmes coincide with the needs of employers, as well as current industrial and economic trends.”
As such, Wong who is also Kluang MP said the proceeding’s topic would be: “Management of training funds and effectiveness of the HRD Corp training programmes”.
“The proceeding is based on the powers under 77 (1)(b) of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat, and Section 3 Item 11(b) of Circular No. 2/1982.”
Last month, the PAC said it would conduct proceedings on HRD Corp, but its timing and reasons were not disclosed.
Previously known as the Human Resource Development Fund, HRD Corp is under the purview of the Human Resources Ministry.
It was previously reported that the Finance Ministry discovered discrepancies in a contract procurement process worth between RM53 million and RM159.47 million, involving a key official in HRD Corp. – October 11, 2023
