KUALA LUMPUR – Former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has called for the delegitimisation and defunding of Israel amid the ongoing Palestine-Israel war.

She made this statement after emphasising that it is important for Malaysia and the rest of the world to stand against allowing the “perpetrators to escape unscathed.”

“We must delegitimise and defund Israel. They cannot commit these war crimes without the support of the United States (US), and we must defend Palestine,” she told reporters after the Freedom for Palestine rally at Dataran Merdeka today.

Izzah pointed out how Josh Paul, a US State Department official, had tendered his resignation over the nation’s decision to continue militarising Israel.

She added that numerous American legislators are against Israel’s continuous crimes against humanity but are being silenced.

At the same time, Nurul Izzah also said there is evidence against Israel’s war crimes and called on the people to disseminate the information.

The evidence mentioned includes the confirmation by Human Rights Watch that Israel had used white phosphorus, as well as the confirmation by the World Health Organisation and United Nations on the bombing of places of worship.

As such, she reiterated that the ongoing war is not a problem limited to only Muslims, as churches were also bombed by the Israeli forces.

The Freedom for Palestine rally today saw over 10,000 participants, all of whom were expressing their unwavering support for the nation.

The current Palestine-Israel war, which started on October 7, has resulted in 4,385 deaths with at least 12,493 injured as of yesterday.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said that 1,756 children and 1,000 women were among those who lost their lives in this latest onslaught.

The ministry also added that 44 healthcare workers were killed, while four hospitals and 14 healthcare centres became defunct. – October 22, 2023
