KUALA LUMPUR – A 13-year-old boy who was caught on video stabbing an elderly e-hailing driver in Sg Petani, Kedah has been arrested last night.

Kuala Muda police chief Zaidy Che Hassan said investigations found that the boy was upset with the 65-year-old driver for allegedly insulting him and trying to get back the fare.

“Based on the report, the driver received an order through the Grab application at 5.43pm yesterday to pick up the passenger at Lorong Taman Keladi, in Sg Petani.

“While on the way to Bandar Sri Astana, the passenger asked the driver to lend him RM50 to pay for house rent.

“However, the driver said if the boy had no money, he would have to drop him off immediately. But the boy refused and asked the driver to take him to his house in Bandar Sri Astana to collect the fare,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

“Upon reaching the house, the boy told the driver to take him to Taman Keladi and gave him RM18. However, the boy directed the driver to several alleys, delaying the trip further.

“The driver reached the intended destination and asked for another RM9, and the boy gave him RM20. While trying to give him change, the boy suddenly tried to stab the driver in his chest with a knife.

“The driver managed to grab the knife and bite the boy’s hand in self-defence. The boy managed to run away after getting his change. The driver escaped unhurt.”

The police seized the knife measuring 25cm in length that was left in the car.

Zaidy said the boy was the eldest of four siblings and did not come from a troubled family nor has a criminal record.

He added that the boy’s preliminary urine test did not indicate he had taken any drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code. – November 28, 2023
