PUTRAJAYA – Economic Digital Centres’ (PEDi) managers and their assistants are set to enjoy an increased allowance of RM500 each, following an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a speech at the PEDi Conference at the Putrajaya International Conference Centre today, Anwar said the allowances for managers will be upped to RM2,500 from RM2,000.

Assistants, on the other hand, will have their allowances boosted to RM2,000 from RM1,500.

As of November 15, a total of 801 managers and 521 assistants are employed at 911 PEDi outlets nationwide.

“Digital transformation is one of the pillars of the Madani government, with PEDi’s initiatives providing much benefit to the community,” said Anwar, who is also finance minister.

“As such, I’d like to add on to the workload (of PEDi personnel) by requesting that reports be submitted so we can keep track of the progress recorded by each centre while ensuring that a wider group of people enjoy its offerings.

“If you agree with this, I can go on to my announcement (on increased allowances),” Anwar said in jest, drawing out the suspense before his declaration drew rounds of applause from the conference’s audience.

He added that the increased allowance will be enforced beginning January next year.
