‘We have not arrested this guy’, says IGP on Papagomo

Police statement runs counter to claims from social media accounts friendly to the blogger

KUALA LUMPUR – The police have denied arresting controversial blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris during his live video session aired across social media, last night.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police did not nab Wan Muhammad Azri, who goes by the monikers ‘Papagomo’ and ‘Sir Azri’, contrary to claims from various sources.

“We did not arrest this guy,” he told NST.

The claim stems from a Facebook posting by Badrul Hisham Shaharin, more commonly known as Chegubard, who is a Bersatu information committee member, who had posted that Sir Azri had to stop his live video discussion due to a visit by police personnel.

Self-exiled blogger blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin made a similar claim via X (formerly Twitter) that Wan Muhammad Azri was arrested while doing a live session on TikTok.

However, Wan Muhammad Azri has yet to confirm his present status across his social media accounts.

No stranger to controversy, Wan Muhammad Azri was recently sued by Communications and Multimedia Minister Fahmi Fadzil on September 5, following allegations that the latter had given a political sermon at a mosque in Rawang prior to the six-state election in August. – December 6, 2023
