KUALA LUMPUR – Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) is set to implement credit and debit card payments at its ticketing counters, including to top-up My50 travel passes, at all of its rail stations by July next year.

Prasarana also said there would be an open payment system for all train services by the fourth quarter of 2025, according to a local news outlet.

The company also explained that currently, the My50 pass – which is exclusively for Malaysians – could be bought at all stations using QRPay or cash, or at key bus hubs with cash.

It also said that commuters wanting to buy a My50 pass from MyRapid online shop can use digital transfer, credit or debit card.

“However, the My50 pass needs to be physically activated over the counter at any rail station and key bus hubs to authenticate the user’s Malaysian identity card.

“With regards to the user’s comments in the article about ticket vending machines (TVMs) at Maluri MRT station, please be informed that the station has six TVMs to purchase tokens and two add value machines to top up Touch ‘n Go cards.

“At the moment, only cash payments are accepted at these machines.

“Payments using credit and debit cards at TVMs and ticketing counters are currently only available at stations on the Putrajaya Line,” it was quoted as saying.

Earlier, the news outlet reported that train commuters were displeased with the lack of top-up options for the My50 pass.

On October 26, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said all train users in Malaysia will enjoy LRT, MRT and monorail open payment systems by August 2025.

He said the design and development works on the matter are set to begin in March 2024. – December 6, 2023
