KUALA LUMPUR – Gombak Setia assemblyman, Muhammad Hilman Idham, will face the upcoming election petition hearing with confidence, saying he is ready to defend his victory in August’s Selangor state election.

The election petition for the Gombak Setia state assembly seat is scheduled to be heard from December 11 to 15.

Subsequently, proceedings will continue from December 18 to 22 at the Ipoh High Court, presided over by Judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed.

As the respondent, Hilman – who represents Perikatan Nasional (PN) – revealed that the defence team will be led by experienced lawyer and former judicial commissioner, Awg Armadajaya Awg Mahmud.

“The line of lawyers consists of Hasshahari Johari Mawi, Mohd Radzlan Jalaludin, Mohd Tajuddin Abd Razak, Muhamad Hafizan Shafuan Kamarulzaman, Shahir Ab Razak and Wan Rohimi Wan Daud.

“I am confident and ready to face the challenges presented through this petition,” he said in a statement today.

The Gombak Setia state seat was secured by Hilman with a slim majority of 58 votes.

He garnered 30,299 total votes, defeating two challengers – Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin from Barisan Nasional (BN) with 30,241 votes, and independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali with 1,076 votes.

Megat had previously indicated he was considering submitting a petition to protest the decision. – December 7, 2023
