Bukit Aman integrity dept investigating death of woman under Kuah police custody

34-year-old detained for drug offences complained she was not feeling well yesterday before dying at the hospital

KUALA LUMPUR – A woman who was detained for a drug offence died at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi this morning while receiving treatment at the hospital after complaining that she was not feeling well, yesterday. 

Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Azri Ahmad said the 34-year-old woman was remanded at the Kuah police headquarters in Langkawi since Tuesday (December 12) for investigations. 

“At 8.05pm yesterday, the woman had complained that she was not feeling well and was immediately sent to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital. She was later warded and received treatment at the hospital,” he said in a statement here today. 

However, this morning the doctor who treated her notified the police that the woman had died and the post-mortem will be done at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, tomorrow. 

He added that an investigation will be carried out by JIPS’ custodial death crime investigation unit. – December 16, 2023
