PUCHONG – Twenty-six houses along Jalan Wawasan 3/9 in Taman Wawasan here, where a landslide took down part of the road last night, will be inspected for their structural integrity.

Petaling District and land district officer Rahilah Rahmat said the inspection, among other things, will analyse the houses’ structure for cracks and other weaknesses that residents may not be aware of.

“So far, only nine houses have been affected and other houses in the same row have not been involved, but we have to wait for the results of the report from the Department of Minerals and Geosciences (JMG) for further action,” Rahilan said, according to Bernama during a visit to the site.

The 26 houses included nine whose occupants have already been ordered to vacate their homes. The seventeen other houses are still occupied.

Rahilah said there was no more soil movement since the landslide last night, based on the JMG’s initial report.

He added that the land office is trying to speed up work to strengthen the soil in anticipation of bad weather.

Iron piles are being installed at the site today to strengthen the collapsed embankment and prevent further soil movement.

Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim has also ordered for both short-term and long-term measures to be implemented, starting with covering the landslide area with canvas.

Further investigations and land studies are also being carried out to determine the design for the reconstruction of the embankment.

The embankment collapsed yesterday at around 7.26pm, taking off a chunk of road right in front a house. Seven houses were then vacated after the incident, which followed heavy rainfall. No one was injured while four vehicles were damaged.

The Subang Jaya City Council meanwhile, has opened a temporary evacuation centre at its multipurpose hall in Laman Puteri 3 to house affected families. – December 17, 2023
