KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa has been appointed the deputy president for Amanah for the party’s 2023-2026 session, succeeding the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who passed away in July this year.

Simultaneously, party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has retained his position for another term.

This decision comes amid the understanding that the 2023-2026 term will be Mohamad’s final tenure as Amanah’s top leader.

Currently serving as Kota Raja MP and agriculture and food security minister, Mohamad has been at the helm of the party for the past two terms, while the party constitution only allows a maximum of three terms for a sitting president.

The unanimous decision was announced during the 2023 Amanah convention by Speaker Azhar Shukur.

Per the party’s constitution, the 27 top leaders who have secured seats in the national Amanah committee will collectively determine the individuals occupying the top five positions for the 2023–2026 term.

These top five positions include party president, deputy president, and three vice presidents.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, former Kota Raja MP Dr. Siti Mariah Mahmud, and Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari have been appointed as party vice-presidents.

Siti Mariah and Adly continue in their roles as incumbent vice-presidents, while Dzulkefly, previously a central committee member, joins them in this esteemed position.

In the election for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker posts, Azhar and Onn Jaafar emerged as the winners, respectively.

Earlier polling results revealed a tight race between Dzulkefly and Khalid Samad, with a mere one-vote difference setting them apart. Dzulkefly secured 900 votes, closely trailed by Khalid Samad with 899 votes, making them the leading contenders in today’s election.

The subsequent positions were claimed by Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof (755 votes), Mujahid (699), Datuk Mahfuz Omar (694), Suhaizan Kaiat (682), and Adly (643).

The election results positioned Mohamad in the eighth spot with 613 votes.

Conducted in conjunction with its annual national convention, a total of 124 candidates vied for the five positions and 27 seats on the central committee. – December 24, 2023
