KUALA LUMPUR – Find yourself having to wrestle with the newly launched Central Database Hub (Padu) while trying to verify your account?
As of 9am today, only 61% (230,443) of 456,136 users registered have completed the eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) verification process.
Barely hours after its launch, netizens aired their grouses with Padu, mostly on not receiving OTPs and issues with the digital identity verification process.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli had denied claims that Padu’s eKYC process of uploading a selfie while holding the identification card would take three days; instead it would take only five minutes to confirm and approve.
Today, the minister told users to ensure that their mobile phone operating system had the latest version, as well as to clear their cache and ensure the browser was not in private mode.
“In general, individuals who wear glasses would not have problems completing the eKYC process.”
He also acknowledged that there were users who were faced with “error code 100” when attempting to verify their identity via the QR code process.
Users with unresolved verification issues should head to the nearest Padu counter.
Users should also be aware that any verified information cannot be amended by individuals except by lodging a complaint report through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) so action can be taken by Padu administrators.
Users must update their occupation and income information.
Rafizi said, for the unemployed, they would need to input any financial assistance and donations given to them by government agencies and family members.
As for complaints regarding the security of its API (app programming interface), he said the system development team had repaired, improved and strengthened the system in an hour at 9.15pm on Tuesday.
They also held a series of discussions with the Statistics Department, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu), Economy Ministry, CyberSecurity Malaysia, National Cyber Security Agency and others.
Rafizi is also expected to hold a press conference this afternoon in Putrajaya.
Previously, former deputy trade minister Ong Kian Ming reiterated his belief that Padu had a risk of identity theft.
To make his point, he obtained MyKad details from four ministers and deputy ministers from the electoral roll before registering them on Padu using his own phone number and email address.
Earlier, Ong took to social media to urge the public to immediately register themselves on Padu, saying: “If not, anyone with your IC and postcode of the address on your IC can register on your behalf.”
This, he said, was compounded by the fact that the registration could be completed without the eKYC approval, which verifies a user’s identity. – January 4, 2024
