Anwar declines to comment on PN’s claim it has enough SDs to bring down Madani govt

This follows opposition statements that it has numbers, and reports of Langkah Dubai plot

SEPANG – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declined to comment on allegations that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has secured enough statutory declarations (SD) to topple his federal unity government.

Dismissing the purported plot as inconsequential, the prime minister said that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s claim is not a matter that demands immediate attention.

“What is there to say? There’s no need for me to comment (on Sanusi’s claim).

“If it’s a big issue, then we’ll respond,” Anwar said briefly when met by reporters after attending the National Good Governance Symposium 2024, here today.

Yesterday, Sanusi, who is also PN election director, claimed the opposition coalition has already obtained sufficient SDs to overthrow the unity government.

However, he did not provide further details on the matter, including the number of SDs obtained.

This is despite the fact that PN denied a statement claiming that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has agreed to grant an audience to 118 MPs.

The false statement was claimed to have been issued by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, as circulated on social media.

Anwar currently has the support of two-thirds of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.

Sanusi’s allegations follows Community Communications Department (J-Kom) Deputy Director-General Datuk Ismail Yusop’s claim that a political move, dubbed Langkah Dubai, is underway to overthrow the Madani government.

Last month, in a Facebook post, Ismail said that Langkah Dubai was engineered by PN figures as well as former two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his right-hand man Tun Daim Zainuddin, who is currently being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. – January 8, 2024
